What to do if your meeting is on a Marae

Coming back to the marae

After you have been formally welcomed and the tapu has been lifted, for the duration of your stay, visitors are given some of the privileges and responsibilities of the local people (like being free to move around the mare, helping in the kitchen, welcoming further visitors or being invited to sit on the speaker’s platform).

That status is temporary, and does not leave with you. It does not mean that you have become tangata whenua. However if you came back to that marae at some future time, you could do so, without being formally welcomed.
