  • Erina Erina Hingston (Ngati Manawa, Ngati Porou, Tuwharetoa and Te Arawa), a recent graduate from Waikato University, was sponsored by CBC and supported by Te Arotūruki to produce a communication document on genetic engineering and the progress of the field trial of genetically engineered trees. You can view the document here. Entitled Te Maramatanga o Te Tipuranga, the booklet begins by explaining the process of genetic engineering (GE) and looks at potential benefits of GE to Māori , as well as challenges and issues. The main focus of the booklet is to inform hapu and iwi of Scion's work on the results of the field trial of genetically modified Pine and Spruce tress. Scion planted the field trials after obtaining permission from ERMA New Zealand.
  • Te Arotūruki has developed a values-based framework model for interactions between scientists and Māori. Te Arotūruki has recently published an overview of the model in the Royal Society of New Zealand journals. A PDF of the publication can be found here.
  • Te Arotūruki has developed a relationship with ERMA’s Kaupapa Kura Taiao (Māori unit of ERMA) and their Māori National Network (MNN). Presented to ERMA and the MNN at their National hui in May 2007 and September 2008).
  • We have kept ERMA’s Kaupapa Kura Taiao and the MNN updated informally by publishing in Te Pūtara (July 2007) and (June 2008).
