What and who is this resource for?
The Te Arotūruki Process was born out of the recognition by both Te Arotūruki members and Scion scientists that a process was needed for scientists and Maori to engage regarding controversial technologies.
Te Arotūruki was established in 2003 with the mandate from the rangatira of the hapu (Ngati Tuteata) within whose traditional boundaries Scion’s main campus is located.
Scion has been involved in GM research for plantation forestry for some time, and has utilised aspects of the Te Arotūruki process for facilating dialogue around their GM field trials.
For a full description of the background on why it was developed and how it has been used, refer to our recent publication in the Journal of the Royal Society of New Zealand.
