Budgeting for Māori Consultation Related Costs in Research Programmes

Research teams will need to consider how to best budget for any likely consultation with Māori required to support your research proposal. These costs should be built into the overall request for proposal funding.. In many, if not most cases, costs would be met in part, or in full, by other sources, for example, the research organisation across a range of related contracts or partner end users. Research teams should work through these details with their research offices and end users. If your proposal is part of a contract funded by FRST, the Foundation does, however, expect to see evidence that the research teams have done the budgeting early, regardless of the source of funds.

Where it is appropriate to build Māori engagement related application costs into the Foundation contract you will need to consider whether the Māori engagement related costs should be provided for either as part of the contract overheads or as an extraordinary item.
