How to Present your Consultation Results
Once you have consulted with the Māori entities, you will need to collate and record the responses. You will need to be able to present evidence that you have consulted with and considered what Māori have expressed to you as their concerns and issues.
If you are submitting an application for approval by ERMA, you will also need to complete an “Assessment of Risk”, which is a table that describes magnitude of the effect if it should occur and the likelihood of the effect occurring. For more details on preparing an “Assessment of Risk” table, we refer you to ERMA’s “Decision Making - A Technical Guide to Identifying, Assessing and Evaluating Risks, Costs and Benefits a copy of which can be found here.
Whether you are submitting an application to ERMA or a funding agency that requires demonstrated engagement with Māori, then you should include:
- A summary of the risks to Māori their culture and values
- All correspondence sent to and received from those consulted;
- Any minutes from any consultation hui held to discuss your application including who was present (and who they represented), what information was presented, what issues were raised and the final outcome of the consultation process;
- Any file notes taken as a result of telephone conversations; and
- If available, confirmation that your account of the consultation process and the resulting information has been accurately reflected (e.g. confirmation by a representative of those consulted that the account is true and correct).
